Mark Chramiec's Windsong, an O'Day/Lunn? Dolphin, Newport, RI

Windsong, sailing out of Newport YC has had multiple sightings and last summer one of our field reporters got this photo on their cell phone camera. Another field reporter made contact and made the existence of this site known to the owner. And on January 15, 2008 still a 3rd field reporter found Windsong's PHRF certificate. We've got her surrounded! We really don't know what kind of Dolphin she is but it looks like she has single in line lower shrouds and that front portlight is not a typical Yankee or Pacific trait. Sooner or later we'll get to talk to Mark.

Your Webmaster has noted that Windsong has a local (Narragansett Bay) PHRF rating (seconds per mile) of 262 spinnaker, 281 non spinnaker. By comparison your webmaster's Marionette (Eastern Long Island Sound) has a 252 spinnaker rating and a 270 non spinnaker rating. That's 10+ seconds a mile!!! and she is racing only 50 miles away!!! We was robbed!!! If Marionette had these numbers we would have retired all the ECSA trophies by now!!!

September 5, 2008 - Your webmaster was on assignment in Newport and used this opportunity to drop off a note for Windsong's skipper - and naturally took a few pictures.

First, Windsong keeps good company. Perhaps 100 yards away from her slip at newport YC are these 3 rafted Twelves Nerfertiti, Enterprise and Intrepid.

This early Dolphin has had some custom work done. Note the step leading to the bridge deck, the built up fiberglass combing with top wood trim and the hatches have the light/dark alternating wood colors. Also, she has an inboard track.

Windsong has an inboard engine but also has a large transom hatch and locker. She does not have a traveller and she has swim ladder fittings on the port side.
