Carter King's 1964 Fiberglass Shaw 24, "Let 'Er Go", SOLD, Possum Kingdom Lake (100 miles west of Fort Worth), Texas - updated November 3, 2018

November 3, 2018. We got the following email from Carter King

Hello Ron,

I sold the boat to a man and his 81 year old father ( who built a 37 foot steel sailboat on the Great Lakes) back in his day. They are going to redo the boat. They are both master carpenters. It will stay on my lake where I can still see it. It will get the complete treatment of being redone by real sailors who know what they have and what to do.

Thank You so much for your help.

Happy Sailing!!

Carter King Former Master of the sailing Vessel "Let 'Er Go"

Fair Winds Carter!

We are standing by for the new owners to check in

October 11, 2018. Carter King and your webmaster have been swapping emails about this boat over the past couple of days. She is a fiberglass Shaw 24 and she is For Sale. Here are Carter's emails (minor edits/consolidated)

Greetings from Texas!

I have a fiberglass 1964 Shaw 24. She had no known previous names....I named her "Let 'Er Go" (a Jerry Jeff Walker song). The boat is located at my dock on Possum Kingdom Lake (100 miles west of Fort Worth, Texas )

The hull is perfect and I just did a $2000 bottom job (professionally done) with Interlux paint (Blue). The interior has lots of teak in great shape, but the interior has not been redone in 28 years.

I got her from a friend who had the boat for 28 years. I need to sell her, I have too many projects and this boat deserves the right person.

The boat does not have any manufacturer plate anywhere. There is no Hull Number on the boat. The man I got the boat from is a friend of 45 years. He bought the boat in Houston 28 years ago and has redone the boat twice.

I just had the bottom professionally sanded and painted with primer and 2 coats of interlux paint. A $2,000 job done by the marina owned by my friend who has had the marina since 1961 at Possum Kingdom Lake. The interior has a teak bulkhead forward to the V berth. A sink as described on Elation, the Shaw 24 near Dallas. She had an Atomic 2 which was removed for repairs and never reinstalled. I do not have an outboard. My plan was to get a heavy duty trolling motor. But she is bound for bigger things with a future owner.

The hull is solid as a rock. No leaks, no damage. The rigging and mast are all in great shape. I have four good sails: Spinnaker, Main, and 2 Jibs. Here are more pictures.

I am asking $3500 - No Trailer.

I do have a clear good title to the boat, but no hull number, Just the Texas registration number - it says 'a Shaw 24'.

Thank You again for your emails. I am not the guy this boat needs to put the love and sweat into to make her right. Any advice you have will be very welcome! I would like the boat listed on your site.

Best Regards,

Carter King
