Robb Waters' Icelander, Yankee # 184, Lake Superior, Upper Penninsula, Chassell, Michigan SOLD (updated July 11, 2012)

July 11, 2012. Icelander has been sold. Click here to go to her new page.

June 15. This has to be the fastest 'connection' we have ever made. Here is the post we got from David Williams.

I wanted to report a newly found Dolphin #263 in this CraigsList ad: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/bod/3070984487.html.  I have pics if the ad dissappears.  It is currently owned by Jimmy Canale, who is a retired San Diego lifeguard. He told me that he has owned her for approximately 20 years.  I could not quite make out the name on the transom and forgot to ask. It has a Vire 7 and, as you will see, also has wheel steering.

I almost bought it even though it's 1,600 miles away, but this morning the former Icelander popped up for sale, and I've reached an agreement with Robb Waters to purchase his boat from the UP of Michigan. After all, it's a mere 1,000+ miles away.  What some men won't do for love when their head is turned!  Hope to have her in Little Rock around the 4th of July and doing the cosmetic work needed. I'll have to give her a new name as Icelander doesn't sound right this far South of the Mason-Dixon line.  Maybe Iced Tea? Wink Naw, I doubt that will be the main libation onboard.

June 14, 2012. Robb posted a notice on the Forum that Icelander was For Sale. Here is his post (minor edits)

I have owned Icelander, Hull # 184, for the past 4 years and had plans to restore her, but health issues have forced me to offer her for sale. She was formerly owned by Bill Watson and featured in the Sept/Oct 2005 issue of GOOD OLD BOAT magazine (see link below)

She is in very solid shape, but needs "putty and paint" and her toe rail replaced. (I have new teak boards to do the job) She sits on a very good two-axle trailer and is powered by a like-new 2003 Merc 9.9 two-stroke outboard. She has 5 excellent sails and her cabin, including upholstery, are in excellent shape.

The deck and topsides has some gelcoat crazing and the whole vessel could use a paint job, but as stated, she is very solid with ZERO soft-spots or delamination. I have most of her deck fittings removed in preperation to paint her, but circumstances have forced me to pass her on to a more capable owner.

I have $4,200 into her and would like to get that back if possible, but am open to offers and really need to sell her.

Robb bought Icelander on November 12, 2007 from former owner James Andrick of Silver Bay, Minnesota and sent in the following to our Forum

                                                                                      Posted Nov 16, 2007

Greetings,

Last Saturday I purchased and trailered home Dolphin #184, the former ICELANDER. She needs some minor cosmetic work, but is solid and all there, including 5 great original sails and a like new 2003 Mercury 9.9 outboard.

I live in U.P. Michigan and sail on Lake Superior, so it will be a long cold winter before I get her in the water.

I also own a Great Dane 28 sloop which was built in Denmark, but wanted something I could trailer. I hope to trail her south next winter.

She's beautiful and I can't wait to launch her next May.

I hope to add a dodger to her inventory...any suggestions?

Thanks,

Robb

Webmaster Note: Dolphin dodgers can be seen on Bodes Well up in Southport, Maine and on the 'Blue Dolphin' at Marina del Rey. Probably other places too!

Icelander was one of the boats that appeared in Dyke Williams 2004 article about Dolphins in Good Old Boat. At that time she was owned by Bill Watson in Lake Minnetonka, MN
